Each week we gather the top three eCommerce news items of the week. Here’s what stood out for us this week!

Holiday 2020 will be an extended shopping season starting with Amazon’s AMZN +3% Prime Day on October 13th and 14th. Many other retailers will be following suit to compete for the customer’s dollars over the two-day period. Last year Amazon Prime Day raked in $6.93 billion worldwide and is projected this year to do $9.91 billion. Read the full article here.

Tesco’s new chief executive says that the new dramatic shift to online grocery is “here to stay” after it nearly doubled the size of its ecommerce business over the last quarter.

 

Tesco saw its online operation grow by a whopping 90 per cent across the three months to the end of August, helping it achieve an overall nine per cent rise in food sales. Read the full article here.

Online electricals retailer AO has opened its largest distribution warehouse to date as it looks to support its rapid rate of growth that has been seen, particularly since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

The new distribution centre will create 120 new jobs across a range of roles. In August, AO revealed it is planning to create 650 new roles across its business, and has launched a nationwide recruitment drive to fill the vacancies. Read the full article here.
