EU competition commissioner Margrethe Vestager is set to launch a formal investigation into Amazon “within days” according to two people familiar with the case speaking to Bloomberg.

 

Now into her fifth year of cracking down on US technology giants, Vestager is believed to be beginning a formal, “full-blown” anti trust investigation into the company and its practices related to third-party sellers. The impending investigation is likely to focus on how Amazon uses data from third-party sellers. Read full article here.

Online retail sales for the month of June made a comeback after a disappointing May, which saw the worst growth on record.

 

June online retail sales grew 8.5 per cent year-on-year, representing the strongest growth so far this year.

 

It is also well ahead of the three-month average of a decline of 0.5 per cent, and six-month and 12-month average growth of 5.4 per cent and 6.9 per cent respectively. Read the full article here.

Online shopping could more than double its share of the retail market by 2028, according to a new report examining the draws of convenience of online shopping and lightning fast delivery alongside traditional bricks and mortar retail.

 

Research conducted in the UK on behalf of Ubamarket found 7.6 million consumers struggle to find items in-store, while 17.8 million people that waiting times could deter them from in-store shopping. Read the full article here.
