The retailer John Lewis says that since its Black Friday offers began on November 20 it has shipped more than 2.5m items – 67% up on the same time last year. The busiest hour on average has been 8pm to 9pm as people shopped earlier than in previous years with an average of 192 orders per minute. The busiest hour so far was 10am to 11am on the very first day of its Black Friday period (November 20) with an average of 258 orders per minute.
Total one-man deliveries were up 30% this year with standard home delivery up 72% and next and named day deliveries up 114%. There have been more than 18.7m product searches this year, 37% more than last year. Read the full article here.
The figure makes Black Friday (for now at least) the second-largest online spending day in US history (after 2019’s Cyber Monday).
Adobe predicts Cyber Monday 2020 will see spending of between $10.8 billion and $12.7 billion.
Smartphones continued to account for an increasing proportion of online sales, with this year’s $3.6 billion up 25.3%, while alternative deliveries — a sign of the e-commerce space maturing — also continued to grow, with in-store and curbside pickup up 52% on 2019. Read the full article here.
Primark has confirmed it will reopen its stores in England when lockdown ends on December 2, along with details on extended trading hours – including 11 stores which will open 24 hours.
The value fashion retailer said the extended trading hours – which will apply to all of its stores – aim to cater for the anticipated higher customer demand ahead of Christmas and to help safely reduce queues by spreading shopping hours over a longer period of time.
Primark said its stores located in retail parks and major shopping centres will trade until 10pm at a minimum, with some stores trading as late as midnight. Read the full article here.
